Activity Report for the month of September 2009
4th and 5th September 2009 : The IT department along with CS department conducted a grand festival SAGACITY’ 09 which was on 4th and 5th September. The festival had many events such as debate, gaming, networking and programming. The mega event of the festival was Bluff Master and Robotics. Students from different colleges participated in huge numbers. The best college award went to “RAIT-College of Engg.”
7th September 2009 : The Biotechnology department conducted on intercollegiate festival titled “Bioeffervescence 09” for the students of BT from various colleges of Mumbai. There was an overwhelming participation of 248 students. The events included Quiz, T-Shirt Painting, Culture Steak, Bio-Jockey, Skit & Directors Cut. This being the 3rd Year of the event, the students launched a magazine “Bioeffervescence” which included articles on Bio Sciences like Swine flu, Exobiology and Genes along with an article by our alumnus on Bioinformatics. The magazine also has crossword puzzles, facts and poems on Biosciences.
11th and 14th September 2009 : On 11/09/09 and 14/09/09, a “Hardware Workshop” was conducted by the Computer Science department for First Year students. It was conducted by Mr. Sandeep, Mr. Aditya and Mr. Balkrishna from Second Year Computer Science. The First Year students found it very beneficial.
11th and 12th September 2009 : In the Zonal round of ‘Mumbai University’s Youth fest’ conducted on 11th & 12th September 2009, the following students of our college are qualified for the finals.

11th and 12th September 2009 : The department of Physics organized a presentation by Mr. Vinod Chauhan, an ex-student on “How to make a Power Point Presentation”.
14th September 2009 : The department of IT organized a seminar by “KEROX” on 14th September on “Career Counseling” in the field of IT and computer science.
15th September 2009 : A fresher’s induction programme for M.Sc. Part-I students was organized by Chemistry department on 15th September 2009.
16th September 2009 : The department of Microbiology organized an advanced training for B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Microbiology) students in Bioinformatics and Clinical Research. A representaive of MITCON Bio-pharma briefed these students about their certificate courses in Bioinformatics and Clinical Research.
18th and 19th September : Mr. Amit Jadhav and Mr. Dipesh Medhavale of M.Sc. (Part II Analytical Chemistry) attended a two days “Post graduate Lecture Series” organized by Royal Society of Chemistry at Ruia College Matunga on 18th and 19th September 2009.
19th September 2009 : On 19/09/09, a special seminar was conducted by SYCS students (Angana, Chandni, Ishita, Sinjal) on “Common Errors made by beginners with C Language” for the FYCS students. The main purpose of the seminar was to make the FY students aware of the common mistakes that they make in C programs.
19th September 2009 : The Chemistry Association conducted a poster painting competition on 19.09.2009 for the science students.
22nd September 2009 : On 22/09/09 Mr. Rahul Nair an ex-student of computer science department, conducted a project presentation on Java . It helped the students of the current batch in pursuing their projects.
24th September 2009 : The NSS wing of the college organized a “Blood donation Camp” on 24th September 2009. They collected 102 bottles of blood for Raheja Blood Bank.
25th September 2009 : On 25/09/2009, Mr. Mayur R. Jangam from Patni Computers conducted a seminar on “Campus to Corporate” under the MOU agreement. He guided the students on the transition to the corporate world. He also elaborated on personality development skills. This was the 4th seminar conducted by them in our college for the CS and IT departments.
25th September 2009 : A “Thalessmia Detection Camp” was organized in collaboration with the Rotary club of Chembur and Faith Foundation. Also, on this day a “Bone Marrow Registry drive” was organized in collaboration with Tata Memorial Hospital.
In all these programmes the active participation of a national NGO “Faith Foundation” was solicited.
26th September 2009 : On 26/09/09, Ms. Hina Kausar, an ex-student of Computer Science, demonstrated her project to the current batch of Third Year students. She had used the Backend Oracle 10g and as a Frontend the Visual Basic 6.0.
30th September 2009 : On 30th September 2009 a Sindhi Cultural function was organized by Sindhi Association under the Banner “Jiye Munji Sindh”. Mrs. Varsha Ahuja, Mrs. Ritika Makhijani Mrs. Sunita Sherifani had organized this event.
Faculty Activities at a Glance
- Mrs. Jayalakshmi Srinivasan attended a seminar on “How to pursue PhD” in Computer Science at the University of Mumbai, Department of Computer Science from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm on 1st September 2009. The speakers for the session were Dr. Jayant Kirtane, Dr. Seema Purohit, Dr. Sushil Kulkarni and Dr. Sify Abraham.
- Mr. Atul Mody gave a talk on “The Scope of Physics” at Somaiya college on 30/09/2009. He also attended a Physics Text Book Review Committee (Maharashtra Board Class 12th) meeting on 4/09/09 at Pune.
Mr. C.M. Bhavadas attended a workshop at G.N. Khalsa College on the revised syllabus of T.Y. B.A Paper IX as a Resource Person.
