Activity Report for the month of October 2009

6th October 2009 : The department of Psychology organized a field trip for F.Y., S.Y. and T.Y. B.A. (Psychology) students to Sulbha School for the mentally retarded .

10th October 2009 : The department of Psychology organized a “Prabhat Pheri” at 7:00 a.m. around Sindhi society to spread awareness on the occasion of the mental health day  on 10th October.

9th October 2009 : “Sci-Clone”, the annual inter–collegiate festival for postgraduate students of biological sciences was organized by the department of Microbiology on 9th October. The programme was attended by 156 post-graduate students who participated in events like Paper Presentation, Poster Making, Debate and Quiz.

10th October 2009 : The Physics Association organized a presentation by students on “Sources of Energy” which was followed by a discussion on the same topic.

17th and 18th October 2009 : The Physics Association had a meeting on 17th October to decide on a topic for an “Exhibition”. From 18th October, the students have been meeting for about two hours every day after their lectures to prepare for this exhibition.

25th to 29th October 2009 : The department of Microbiology and Biotechnology organized a study tour to Ahmedabad, Baroda and Anand in Gujrat. The students were accompanied by Mrs. Mughda Apte, Mr. Malay Shah, Mr. S. Pramanik and Mr. S. Ganger. They visited Zydus Cadilla, Amul Dairy, National Research Center for Medicinal Aromatic Plants, Natronal Institute for Occupational Health and M.S. University, Baroda.

26th and 27th October 2009 : Mr. Sunil Pai and Mr. Wankhede from Wipro Technologies conducted a pre-placement talk followed by interviews for recruiting the 2009 batch graduates of V.E.S.

29th or 30th October 2009 : The Accountancy department along with the Career Guidance Cell organized an orientation programme for “Careers through Accounts” that was conducted by ICFAI.

31st October 2009 : The Chemistry Association conducted an Essay Writing competition on this day for the science students.

31st October 2009 : The Elimination Round for the 45th A.D. Shroff memorial elocution was organized on this day. The selected students were given tips on how to improve their presentation. The final round is scheduled to be held on 11th November.   

• Mr. Atul Mody presented a paper on “Capacity Building of Undergraduate Physics Students” at the 2nd Conference of Peoples Council of Education in October 2009.
• Dr. V.D. Barhate is recognized as Research guide for Ph.D. by  University of    Mumbai  for  Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry.
• A research paper by Dr. V. D. Barhate, Mrs. Parinita Madan, Mr.Anand Kumar S.Gupta (M.Sc. student) and Mr. Datta B., Mandhare(M.Sc. student) was published in the Oriental Journal of Chemistry 2009 Vol 25(3) on “Extractive Sphectrophotometric Determination of Pd(II) with Isonitroso-p-nitroacetophenone Thiosemicarbazone”.
• Mrs.Dipta Dasgupta attended a workshop on the Revised Syllabus of Computer Application Paper of T.Y.B.Com. at Somaiya College on 23rd and 24th October 2009.
• Mrs. Radhika Mohan attended a National Level Conference on “Continuing Education Programme in Clinical Psychology” at Kannur that was organized by the Indian Clinical Psychologists and accredited by Renabilitation Council of India on 2nd and 3rd October 2009. She also presented two papers on “Concession for Learning Disability in Maharashtra and “Life Skills Education”. She was also a panel member on both the days for the discussion.
• Mrs. Dipta Dasgupta presented a poster on “Mind –Maps for Mathematics” at the Homi Bhabha Institute for science Education in a National Level Science Education Conference from 5th – 8th October 2009.
